Kayaker found dead in Warrensburg

WARRENSBURG, NY — A 21-year-old man from Yonkers was found dead in the Schroon River on May 11 following a kayaking incident.

The man was found deceased in the water at about 5:55 p.m., according to New York State Police.

Troopers initially responded to the area of Library Avenue at about 8:04 p.m. on May 10 for the report of an overturned kayak in the Schroon River.

The investigation determined that the kayak had been occupied by the 21-year-old man before its discovery.

The Warren County Marine Rescue Team and the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team searched the area into the early morning hours on May 10, but the kayaker was not located.

The search resumed on May 11.

The investigation is ongoing.
