Driver killed in crash in Greenwich

GREENWICH, CT — Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred during the early morning hours of May 10, 2026.

At approximately 2:09 a.m., a Greenwich Police officer conducting radar enforcement on Delavan Avenue observed a Lexus LS400 traveling eastbound at an estimated speed of 50 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

The officer subsequently observed the vehicle proceed through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Delavan Avenue and Frontage Road.

The officer turned to travel in the same direction as the vehicle in order to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

A short time later, the officer discovered that the vehicle had crashed on W. Ritch Avenue adjacent to the Byram Shore Tennis Courts.

The vehicle sustained significant damage after striking a roadside utility pole.

Additional units from the Greenwich Police Department, Greenwich Fire Department, and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and was found to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

A front-seat passenger was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

At the time of this release, W. Ritch Avenue remains closed between Byram Shore Road and the I-95 Northbound Exit 2 on-ramp due to utility repairs.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Greenwich Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate this incident.
