LAURENS, NY — New York State Police arrested a 19-year-old man on May 5, 2026, after a report of a man pointing a handgun at people.
Derick Danielsen of Laurens was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 1st degree, a class A-I felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, and menacing in the 2nd degree, a misdemeanor.
An investigation by members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that shortly after 2 p.m., a couple was operating a vehicle in the village of Laurens when they saw Danielsen follow them in his vehicle out of the village into the town of Oneonta.
The couple reported that Danielsen appeared to be holding a handgun, pointing it at their vehicle.
The couple drove to the State Police Barracks in Oneonta to report the incident.
Troopers located Danielsen and his vehicle on Louden Drive in the village of Laurens.
Through investigative steps, troopers seized approximately 2,230 grams of cocaine, approximately 69 grams of ecstasy, approximately 70 grams of oxycodone pills, approximately 30 grams of Xanax, approximately 26 grams of fentanyl, approximately 2 pounds of cannabis, and approximately 150 THC vape cartridges.
Troopers also seized a large amount of cash, a semi-automatic 9mm ghost gun with a loaded 15-round magazine, a Ruger Max 9 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a loaded silver .32 caliber revolver, a Remington 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, a Mossberg 12-gauge pump action shotgun, and a Stevens 12-gauge break action shotgun.
Danielsen was processed at State Police Oneonta and transported to the Otsego County Jail for centralized arraignment.
