WILLOW STREET, PA — A 32-year-old York man has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident that occurred last month.
Leonardo Villaman, of York, was taken into custody May 4 by a U.S. Marshals Task Force and charged with strangulation, theft by unlawful taking and driving while operating privilege is suspended.
West Lampeter Township Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Willow Street Pike at approximately 7 p.m. April 25 for a domestic disturbance.
Officers conducted an investigation and discovered that Villaman had engaged in a verbal argument with his ex-girlfriend.
The argument escalated and Villaman reportedly pushed his ex-girlfriend to the floor and then began choking her with his hands, according to police.
The ex-girlfriend was able to break free from Villaman, but he then stole the keys to her vehicle and the vehicle itself before fleeing prior to police arrival, authorities said.
Villaman was charged before Magisterial District Judge Benner and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
After his arrest in York, Villaman was turned over to the West Lampeter Township Police Department and transported to Lancaster County Prison to await arraignment.
Villaman was arraigned and given bail of $30,000 unsecured and was released from custody.
He is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
