Woman arrested on stolen property charges in Colchester

COLCHESTER, NY — A Bloomville woman was arrested on multiple charges including criminal possession of stolen property following a traffic stop Friday night.

Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced Saturday that deputies observed a vehicle with a loud muffler traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester around 9 p.m.

A deputy performed a rolling DMV data check and found the vehicle had switched plates.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Amanda Robinson, 47, of Bloomville.

Further investigation revealed Robinson was in possession of a stolen firearm and other stolen items from a residence where she had been working on County Highway 7 in the Town of Colchester.

Robinson was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony.

She was additionally charged with aggravated unlicensed operator in the second degree, knowingly operating a motor vehicle while suspended and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, all unclassified misdemeanors.

Robinson also received citations for unlicensed operator, no/inadequate muffler, driver’s view obstructed, improper plates, unregistered motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle and operating without insurance.

Robinson was released on appearance tickets and traffic summons and is scheduled to appear in Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Following the arrest, Robinson was turned over to the Town of Colchester Police for processing on additional charges related to the incident.
