SPRINGFIELD, MA — Members of the Springfield Police Department seized two illegal dirt bikes and arrested two riders during an Off-Highway-Vehicle enforcement detail on Friday and Saturday.

The detail was conducted to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles, which are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders.

On Friday afternoon, officers located a dirt bike which eventually stopped on Jefferson Avenue and Chestnut Street.

The 18-year-old male rider dismounted, and a second rider got onto the bike and fled the scene.

The 18-year-old will be issued a criminal complaint.

A short time later, officers observed a dirt bike on Chestnut Street.

The 17-year-old rider was stopped on Chapin Terrace and placed under arrest.

The dirt bike was towed.

The rider’s name and charges will not be released due to his age.

On Saturday afternoon, officers located a dirt bike rider and placed him under arrest on Pasadena Street.

The dirt bike was towed and had been reported stolen out of Connecticut.

Hector Lozada-Cabrera, 45, of Springfield is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, snow/recreational vehicle helmet violation and snow/recreational vehicle public way violation.
