SANDY CREEK, NY — The New York State Police have arrested a man following a violent domestic incident that resulted in serious injuries to multiple troopers.
On April 26, 2026, at approximately 7:27 a.m., state police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on State Route 3 in the town of Sandy Creek, Oswego County.
Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, troopers attempted to take the suspect, Neil Jones, 56, of Sandy Creek, into custody.
During the arrest, Jones armed himself with a machete and attacked responding troopers, striking them and causing significant injuries.
Two troopers sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.
One trooper suffered a laceration to the right index finger that severed a tendon and will likely require surgery.
Another trooper sustained a laceration to the wrist, a laceration to the quadricep, and two broken ribs.
Both troopers are expected to recover.
Jones was taken into custody at the scene and transported for evaluation.
Following arraignment in Oswego County Centralized Arraignment Part Court, Jones was charged with harassment in the 2nd degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, assault in the 1st degree (2 counts), assault on a police officer (1 count), menacing (3 counts), criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree and resisting arrest.
Bail was set at $500,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond, or $5,000,000 partially secured bond (10%).
Jones is scheduled to return to court on May 21, 2026.
