STAMFORD, CT — A 66-year-old Stamford woman died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing in a marked crosswalk Saturday afternoon.
The collision occurred in the area of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road at approximately 2:04 p.m. April 25.
A 2014 Toyota pickup truck driven by a 50-year-old Stamford resident was traveling southbound on Strawberry Hill Avenue when the driver made a left turn to go eastbound on Colonial Road.
The pedestrian was crossing southbound across Colonial Road in the marked crosswalk when she was struck by the Toyota and knocked to the ground.
She was transported to Stamford Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries in the early morning hours of Sunday.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and spoke to responding officers.
The driver was issued an infraction ticket at the scene for failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
No other charges have been filed at this time.
The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad will conduct a further investigation and determine, in conjunction with the Stamford State’s Attorney’s Office, if any further charges are warranted.
The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
