AVON, CT — A daycare worker arrested last week on charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor now faces multiple additional charges involving five children.
Jan Carlos Berrios-Otero, 29, of Avon, was initially arrested April 1 after an administrator at BrightPath Avon Early Learning and Child Care Center on Simsbury Road reported suspected inappropriate contact with a child.
The administrator contacted Avon police March 31, stating she believed a staff member may have had inappropriate contact with a child inside the center on March 30.
Berrios-Otero was charged with one count of risk of injury to a minor and one count of sexual assault in the fourth degree.
He was arraigned at Superior Court in Torrington and has been held in custody since his arrest.
Avon Police detectives have now secured additional arrest warrants in the case.
Berrios-Otero faces multiple additional charges of sexual assault in the fourth degree and risk of injury to a minor related to six incidents involving five children.
He will also be charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor due to the number of victims under the age of 13.
Berrios-Otero is expected to be arraigned on the new charges in Torrington.
