OLEAN, NY — A woman faces arson and criminal mischief charges after allegedly setting a fire inside a county building bathroom.
Brenda Anderson was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree arson on April 23, 2026 at 9:30 a.m., according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges stem from an investigation into a fire set inside the women’s bathroom at the Olean County Building on April 20, 2026.
Authorities discovered smoke and burnt county property inside the first-floor women’s bathroom.
Investigators determined Anderson held a lighter to a toilet paper holder, melting one end of it and igniting a roll of toilet paper.
The incident caused damage to the toilet paper holder and the wall it was attached to.
Anderson was processed and issued an appearance ticket.
She is scheduled to appear in Olean City Court at a later date.
