Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Gloucester Township

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning and remains in critical condition.

Officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department were dispatched to the area of Kearsley Road and Hazeltop Drive at approximately 1:55 a.m. for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Gloucester Township police officers arrived on the scene with an ambulance from Inspira Basic Life Support, paramedics from Virtua Health and the Erial Fire Department.

Emergency medical personnel immediately worked to stabilize a male who was located on the side of the road after being struck by a vehicle.

The male was reportedly standing in the lane of travel at the time of the collision and went onto the hood of the vehicle before coming to rest on the grassy area.

The vehicle operator safely stopped the vehicle after the collision and waited for first responders.

The victim was stabilized on scene and transported by ambulance.

The pedestrian is in critical condition at Cooper Trauma Center in Camden.

The driver and passenger from the vehicle were not injured and are cooperating with police during the investigation.

The roadway was closed for a short period of time while officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit investigated the collision.

The names of the parties involved in this incident are being withheld pending the notification of family for the pedestrian.
