SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — A 16-year-old was arrested on firearm charges following a traffic stop on April 16, 2026.
An officer conducting routine patrol observed a motor vehicle fail to yield at a rotary at approximately 5:47 p.m.
A traffic stop was initiated in a nearby parking area with the assistance of a second responding officer.
Officers determined the vehicle was occupied by three juveniles.
During the stop and subsequent investigation, officers determined that one occupant was in possession of marijuana.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a 9mm Ruger LC9 handgun.
The juvenile found in possession of the firearm did not hold a valid License to Carry or Firearms Identification Card, as required under Massachusetts law.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Southbridge Police Headquarters to be processed.
The operator of the vehicle was issued a citation for failure to yield.
The remaining occupant was released to their guardian, and appropriate notifications were made.
The 16-year-old was charged with being in possession of a firearm without a License to Carry and with unlawful possession of ammunition.
A report will be filed with the Department of Children and Families regarding all involved juveniles.
