2 charged with burglary in Sanford

SANFORD, NY — A Deposit man and a Binghamton woman are facing burglary charges after neighbors reported a suspicious vehicle at a residence where the previous occupants were deceased.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on North Sanford Road at approximately 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses reported seeing two individuals inside the house and said the previous residents were deceased and no one should be at the residence.

Deputies located a gray Chevrolet Silverado traveling on North Sanford Road a short distance from the residence and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, Philip C. Briggs Jr., 29, of Deposit, told deputies he had picked up the passenger, Emily N. Cecere, 37, of Binghamton, who claimed to have been staying at the residence for several days.

The owner of the residence confirmed that no one was authorized to stay at the house.

Briggs was found to have a burglary tool in his possession.

Cecere was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to a deceased individual who lived at the residence.

Briggs was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, possession of burglar tools, a class A misdemeanor, and sixth-degree conspiracy, a class B misdemeanor.

Cecere was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and sixth-degree conspiracy, a class B misdemeanor.
