13-year-old charged with making threat of mass harm in Long Lake

LONG LAKE, NY — A 13-year-old male from Long Lake was charged with Making a Threat of Mass Harm on April 23, 2026.

State Police responded to Long Lake Central School on School Lane at approximately 9:46 a.m. for a reported bomb threat.

An investigation determined that a 13-year-old student had been in possession of a calculator with wires protruding, which he claimed was a bomb diffuser, for a bomb he had planted somewhere in the school.

On April 22, 2026, the student allegedly carried the device around the school, making threats and touching other students with it while stating it was a bomb.

On the morning of April 23, the device was located in the superintendent’s mailbox.

As a precaution, the school was evacuated.

State Police K-9 units responded and conducted a sweep of the building, which yielded negative results, and no credible threat was found.

The 13-year-old was issued a Family Court appearance ticket and released.

State Police were assisted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
