NEW HARTFORD, NY — Two men have been arrested on felony charges following a credit card fraud investigation that began in December.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on Dec. 28 from a victim who reported her wallet had gone missing the day before.
The victim then received alerts that her credit cards had been fraudulently used at two New Hartford area stores.
Sheriff’s Patrol investigated the report, and due to the crimes being of a felony level, the investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
The investigation identified the suspects as Louis Sgroi, 35, of Utica, and Thomas Wall, 33, of Utica.
After attempts to locate both men were unsuccessful, arrest warrants were sought for each suspect.
Sgroi was charged with grand larceny fourth degree, a class E felony, and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property fourth degree, class E felonies.
Wall was charged with grand larceny fourth degree, a class E felony, and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property fourth degree, class E felonies.
On March 30, Sgroi was located in Utica and arrested on unrelated charges.
He was transported to the correctional facility where he was turned over to the Sheriff’s Warrants Unit, processed and held for arraignment at CAP Court.
After arraignment, Sgroi was held at the jail without bail.
On April 17, Sheriff’s Patrol received information that the New York State Police had Wall in custody on unrelated charges.
Wall was turned over to the Sheriff’s Road Patrol in New Berlin and was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and held for arraignment at CAP Court.
After arraignment, Wall was remanded to the county jail without bail.
Both men will appear in New Hartford Town Court.
