Two arrested after patrol vehicle damaged in Camden

CAMDEN, NY — New York State Police arrested two people after a beverage can was thrown at a marked patrol vehicle, causing damage, and the vehicle’s operator fled from authorities.

A State Trooper was traveling southbound on State Route 13 at approximately 10:34 p.m. on April 17, 2026, when a northbound 2024 Chevrolet Equinox passed by.

A passenger threw a full aluminum beverage can from the rear driver-side window, striking the hood of the patrol vehicle and causing damage, police said.

The Trooper activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The operator failed to comply and fled at high speeds through the village, traveling approximately 75 mph in a 40 mph zone and 65 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to police.

The vehicle came to a stop on Preston Street, where all occupants were detained without incident.

An 18-year-old woman from Rome was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, reckless driving and additional vehicle and traffic law violations.

An 18-year-old man from Taberg, identified as the person who threw the can, was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, unlawful possession of alcohol under 21 and littering on a highway.

Both were processed and released on appearance tickets.

They are scheduled to appear in Town of Camden Court on May 13, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Several additional occupants in the vehicle, including juveniles, were interviewed and released to guardians.

The damage to the patrol vehicle exceeded $250, police said.

No injuries were reported.
