Three arrested on drug charges in Avon

AVON, NY — Three Livingston County residents face felony drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 390.

Investigator Shawn Whitford stopped a vehicle on April 17 at approximately 8:15 p.m. after observing a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic law.

The driver was identified as Robert Gelser, 37, of Nunda.

Two passengers were identified as John Kennedy Jr., 37, of Nunda, and Meghan Soto, 42, of Geneseo.

The investigator suspected drug activity in the vehicle and conducted a drug investigation.

All three occupants were found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Gelser, Kennedy and Soto were charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree.

Kennedy had an active order of protection against him requiring him to stay away from Soto.

Kennedy was additionally charged with misdemeanor Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree and felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree for possessing metal knuckles.

All three were transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.

They were arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of York Justice Koch.

Soto and Gelser were released on their own recognizance as the charges do not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.

The District Attorney’s Office recommended Kennedy be held on $6,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Kennedy was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on $3,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
