Man found dead in Champlain

CHAMPLAIN, NY — New York State Police are investigating the death of a man found inside a residence on Route 9B.

Troopers responded to 407 Route 9B on April 18, 2026, at approximately 7:50 p.m. for a report of a deceased individual inside a residence.

Upon arrival, troopers consulted with medical personnel, who confirmed that a male was located on a couch and showed signs consistent with an obvious death.

The deceased was identified as John J. Murphy, 63, of Rouses Point.

The Clinton County Coroner responded to the scene and ordered the removal of Murphy where an autopsy was scheduled for April 20, 2026.

An autopsy was conducted at Glens Falls Hospital by forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica on April 20, 2026.

The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to strangulation.

The manner of death remains pending further investigation.
