MASSENA, NY — New York State Police initiated an investigation into an incident involving a firearm on March 28, 2026.

Darlene M. Bourdeau, 67, of Massena, had previously been ordered by the court to surrender her firearms to the State Police as a result of an earlier incident.

An investigation determined that Bourdeau turned over two firearms: a Ruger .22 caliber and a High Standard .22 caliber pistol.

While reviewing the surrender, State Police contacted the St. Lawrence County Pistol Permit Bureau after discovering that the High Standard firearm did not match the records listed on Bourdeau’s pistol permit.

Further investigation revealed that the High Standard firearm did not belong to Bourdeau and that she did not have permission to possess it and she surrendered it loaded.

Amy R. Wells, 54, of Massena, claimed ownership of the firearm; however, evidence determined that the weapon did not belong to her either, and she also did not have permission to possess it.

On April 15, 2026, Wells was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm and processed at SP Massena.

She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Massena Court at a later date in April.

On April 16, 2026, Bourdeau was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and processed at SP Massena.

She was arraigned in the Town of Massena Court and subsequently released on her own recognizance.
