Woman arrested after hit-and-run crash in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, PA — A 36-year-old woman was arrested Saturday after police say she struck an 11-year-old with her vehicle and fled the scene.

Harrisburg Police responded to the 2400 block of Derry Street on April 18 for a report of a child struck by a motor vehicle.

Officers arrived and located the victim but were told the striking vehicle had left the scene.

Medical aid was immediately provided to the victim, who was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

A search for the striking vehicle was conducted, and it was located a short time later in a surrounding municipality.

Officers confirmed the striking vehicle and identified Tahirah Stewart, of Pennsylvania, as the driver.

Stewart was arrested and charged with felony grade accidents involving death or personal injury.
