Bomb threat investigated in Putnam

1 min read

PUTNAM, CT — A Putnam High School student’s email account was compromised early Thursday morning, and a bomb threat was sent through the school system’s network.

The message was sent in a foreign language and was automatically translated into English through the system’s settings.

The Putnam Police Department was notified at approximately 6:06 a.m. and initiated a criminal investigation.

Working with Putnam School System personnel, investigators determined the threat was not credible.

Police said no Putnam student was involved, and the threat did not originate locally.

The incident is similar to online threats received last month in Putnam and around the region.

The Putnam Police continue to coordinate with local, state and federal law enforcement partners as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police will maintain an increased presence in areas of the public schools throughout the day as a precautionary measure.
