NEWTON, NJ — A 54-year-old man will be extradited from North Carolina to New Jersey this weekend to face criminal charges in connection with the 1990 homicide of Lisa Marie McBride in Vernon Township.

Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez, New Jersey State Police Acting Superintendent Jeanne Hengemuhle, and Vernon Township Chief of Police Daniel B. Young announced Friday that Robert William McCaffrey Jr. is scheduled to appear before Hon. Janine M. Allen, J.S.C. for an arraignment on Monday at 9:30 a.m.

It is expected that at his initial appearance, McCaffrey will be formally charged with Murder in the First Degree, Kidnapping in the First Degree, and Burglary in the Second Degree.

Following McCaffrey’s arraignment, the Complaint Warrant and Affidavit of Probable Cause will be made publicly available.

The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office will be filing a Motion for Pretrial Detention.

It is anticipated that a detention hearing will be scheduled in the Sussex County Superior Court during the week of April 27.

These court proceedings follow McCaffrey’s arrest on April 10 in Manteo, North Carolina, after a decades-long investigation into the murder of Lisa Marie McBride.

This cold case was solved through significant advancements in DNA technology, combined with the relentless investigative efforts of detectives in the New Jersey State Police, the Vernon Township Police Department, and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
