Man charged with stolen property possession in Winthrop

WINTHROP, NY — New York State Police charged a Potsdam man with multiple offenses following a larceny investigation.

Travis J. Charleson, 44, of Potsdam, was charged April 14, 2026, with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.

Troopers responded to Scott Road in the town of Stockholm at approximately 8:08 a.m. April 8, 2026, for a larceny complaint.

An investigation determined that a black 2019 Carry Craft trailer had been stolen from a residence.

The trailer was later located at a residence on Old Market Road in Winthrop, where it had been dropped off by Charleson.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop on Charleson April 14, 2026.

He refused to cooperate with troopers and would not exit the vehicle.

Charleson was subsequently removed from the vehicle and transported to SP Massena for processing.

During the investigation, he was found to be in possession of narcotics, which were identified as methamphetamine.

He was later arraigned at the Town of Brasher Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail without bail due to having two prior felony convictions.
