METHUEN, MA — Police arrested a man after observing him operating a red dirt bike recklessly on Tenney Street.

Officers conducted a proactive stop after witnessing the operator riding without a helmet, performing burnouts, and fleeing at a high rate of speed through traffic and pedestrians.

Using city camera footage, officers identified the operator, who was later located and placed under arrest.

The man was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.

The dirt bike was unregistered and was towed from the scene.

The Methuen Police Department is increasing enforcement on illegal dirt bikes and scooters operating on public roadways as warmer weather approaches.
