DEWITT, NY — A Syracuse man was arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at two people in a restaurant parking lot.
The DeWitt Police Department reports that Maher A. Mobaraz, 20, of Syracuse, was taken into custody following an incident on April 10, 2026, at the Chick-fil-A located at 5761 Celi Drive.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 3:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had displayed and pointed a handgun at two individuals as they were leaving the parking lot.
The victims reported that the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at them while they were in their vehicle, following a disagreement inside the restaurant.
Surveillance footage from the business corroborated the victims’ statements, according to police.
The video showed the suspect approach the victims’ vehicle, display a handgun from his waistband and point it at the vehicle as it exited the parking lot.
On April 11, 2026, an investigating officer located Mobaraz operating his vehicle on Erie Boulevard in the Town of DeWitt and conducted a traffic stop.
He was taken into custody without incident.
During the arrest, officers recovered a Polymer 80 9mm semi-automatic handgun from his waistband, equipped with a laser sight and loaded with ammunition.
Mobaraz does not possess a valid New York State pistol permit, police said.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and menacing in the second degree.
Mobaraz was processed at the DeWitt Police Department and later arraigned in CAP Court, where he was held on $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash bail.
