Man arrested on menacing charge in Wallkill

WALLKILL, NY — A man was arrested after allegedly displaying what appeared to be a weapon during a dispute.

Town of Wallkill officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 327 East Main Street at 5 p.m. April 13.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that during the dispute the defendant displayed what appeared to be an orange handle object at the victim.

The defendant then fled the scene.

A subsequent investigation led to a search of the defendant’s residence, recovering an orange handle screwdriver.

A brief investigation by Officer Llaney Hernandez led to the arrest of Rafael Horacio Arias, 40, of Wallkill, on April 14.

Arias was charged with criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree, menacing second degree, attempted criminal mischief and harassment second degree.

Arias was released on his own recognizance to appear before Judge Peter Green at the Town of Wallkill Court on April 15 at 9 a.m.

The Town of Wallkill Police Department was assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, City of Middletown Police Department and the New York State Police.
