Man arrested on criminal mischief, trespassing charges in Cairo

CAIRO, NY — State Police arrested a man April 10 after he allegedly entered a residence without permission and damaged property.

Michael R. Veeder, 37, of Earlton, was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor, and criminal trespass in the third degree, a class B misdemeanor.

State Police responded to a residence on Bross Street at approximately 8:09 p.m. for a reported incident.

An investigation determined that Veeder unlawfully entered the residence of a 36-year-old woman without her consent while she was inside the home.

The victim requested that Veeder leave the premises, and he complied.

Upon leaving, Veeder took a key fob belonging to the victim, according to police.

The item was later located in a wooded area near the residence and had been intentionally damaged.

Veeder subsequently reported to the State Police in Catskill, where he was taken into custody and processed without incident.

Veeder was arraigned in Cairo Town Court and released on his own recognizance with a return date set for April 21 at 2:00 p.m.

The victim has been issued a stay-away order of protection.
