Two arrested on child endangerment charges in Cortlandville

CORTLANDVILLE, NY — Two people were arrested early Sunday morning following a domestic incident at a residence in the town.

George S. Hines, 26, of Cortlandville, and Demi R. Barden, 20, of Cortland, were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Hines was also charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the residence at approximately 2:25 a.m. for a reported domestic incident.

Authorities determined that Hines and Barden had engaged in a verbal and physical altercation in the presence of a child.

Investigators later discovered that Hines had violated a full-stay away order of protection during the incident.

Both were arrested at 2:39 a.m. and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.

Hines and Barden were arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Both were released on their own recognizance and will have future court dates scheduled in Cortlandville Town Court.
