Man arrested on weapons charges in Hackensack

HACKENSACK, NJ — A 42-year-old man has been arrested on multiple weapons charges following a shooting investigation that began in March.

Kenneth G. Chin, of Ridgefield Park, was taken into custody on April 13 in Jersey City in connection with a March 16 incident on Broadway in Hackensack.

Police said an unknown person entered the driveway of a Hackensack residence at approximately 7:49 p.m. on March 16 and fired one round of 9mm ammunition through an apartment window.

No one was struck in the shooting.

Detective Demetrius Carroll and members of the Detective Bureau conducted an investigation that identified Chin as the suspect.

Members of Hackensack’s Emergency Service Unit arrested Chin in Jersey City while Hackensack detectives executed a search warrant at his Ridgefield Park residence.

Detectives seized a Keltec Sub2000 semi-automatic carbine, a Sig Sauer P365 9mm pistol, and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition.

Chin was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have weapons, unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and hindering apprehension.

He was processed and remanded to the Bergen County Jail on a complaint warrant pending his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

The Hackensack Police Department received assistance from Bergen County Regional SWAT, Ridgefield Park Police Department, Jersey City Police Department, and Bergen County Animal Control, which secured a pitbull from the residence.
