EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning that left her with serious head injuries.
The East Windsor Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 33 West and Twin Rivers Drive North at approximately 10:03 a.m. for a motor vehicle crash involving serious bodily injury.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling westbound on Route 33 in the left lane, approaching the intersection.
A 2025 Kenworth T880 was also in the left lane and had begun moving from a stopped position several car lengths before the intersection after the traffic signal turned green.
The Subaru failed to observe the Kenworth as it began to move and subsequently struck the rear of the truck.
Following the collision, the Subaru caught fire, which was extinguished by responding officers and a good samaritan.
The driver of the Subaru, a 21-year-old woman from Howell, was found unconscious and suffering from serious head injuries.
She was removed from the vehicle and treated on scene by EMS and paramedics before being airlifted by the New Jersey State Police to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Kenworth, a 51-year-old man from Bradley Beach, reported no injuries.
Assisting agencies included the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Monroe Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police, Monroe Township Fire Department & EMS, Capital Health Systems Paramedics and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
