QUEENS, NY — New York State Police arrested an attorney at John F. Kennedy International Airport on June 25, 2026, as he attempted to leave the country in violation of a court order.
Donatello Marof Lazarati, 41, of Baldwinsville, was charged with bail jumping in the second degree, a class E felony, and criminal contempt in the second degree, a misdemeanor.
The charges stem from a violation of a court order issued following his arraignment on a previous felony charge.
As part of the order, Lazarati was prohibited from leaving the United States and was directed to surrender his passport.
Lazarati failed to comply with those conditions.
On June 23, 2026, Lazarati was arrested by the New York State Police for grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony.
An investigation revealed that Lazarati was working with the Assigned Counsel Program in Chenango County.
Lazarati submitted duplicate billing to Chenango County for the same legal services and accepted payment.
As a result, Chenango County sustained a financial loss of approximately $4,700.
On June 24, 2026, Lazarati was arraigned at Centralized Arraignment at the Chenango County Jail.
He was released on his own recognizance but ordered by the court not to leave the country and to surrender his passport by June 26, 2026.
On June 25, 2026, New York State Police were notified that Lazarati was attempting to leave the United States and purchased an airline ticket to Qatar.
Members of New York State Police Troop NYC arrested Lazarati at the airport.
He was subsequently transported to Troop C and processed at SP Norwich.
Lazarati was turned over to the Chenango County Jail, where he was remanded on $35,000 cash, $50,000 credit or $250,000 partially secured bond.
