AMITYVILLE, NY — A 38-year-old man was arrested after police discovered a loaded handgun during a medical emergency call.
Officers from the Amityville Police Department responded to a residence on Noelle Court on the afternoon of April 13 for a reported medical emergency.
Police Officer Michael Schwenzer and Officer Graham Eickelberg arrived on scene along with Amityville Fire Department Ambulance 1-1-27 and provided medical assistance to the individual.
While emergency personnel were rendering aid, Officer Schwenzer observed what appeared to be the handle of a handgun protruding from the subject’s pocket.
A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of a loaded and defaced .380 caliber Ruger LCP handgun.
The individual was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
A search of the subject revealed a clear plastic bag containing what appeared to be a controlled substance, pending laboratory analysis.
The man has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and related offenses.
