STEPHENTOWN, NY — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a burglary reported April 13, 2026, in the town of Stephentown.
The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary and home invasion on NY43 after a victim observed an unknown individual moving inside another area of the property via security cameras.
The victim contacted 911 and remained on the line until deputies arrived.
Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene, interviewed the victim and began collecting evidence.
The Criminal Investigations Unit conducted a detailed investigation and used the Flock camera system to identify and locate the suspect approximately 80 miles south of Albany in Dutchess County.
Investigators took the suspect into custody without incident.
Thomas B. Luxton has been charged with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor, and burglary in the third degree, a class D felony.
Luxton was arraigned in the town of Sand Lake Court.
He was released on his own recognizance as the charges did not qualify as bail-eligible offenses under New York State law.
An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said investigators identified and apprehended the suspect in 13 hours.
