NEW LONDON, CT — A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday evening after reports of an individual wearing a mask and wielding a knife while chasing juveniles in a residential area.
The New London Emergency Communications Center received a call for service at approximately 7:45 p.m. Monday in the area of Buchanan Road and Jefferson Avenue.
The caller reported a male subject wearing a mask and carrying a knife was chasing juveniles in the area.
The caller further reported that the individual fled into Bates Woods.
Responding officers made contact with witnesses at the scene who stated the male subject was waving a knife above his head and, at one point, acting as if he was stabbing the ground.
Officers immediately established a perimeter around the area and conducted a search, deploying a drone to assist in locating the suspect.
The male subject was subsequently located and arrested in the area of the New London Animal Control Office in Bates Woods Park.
The suspect was identified as Zakai Marshall, 19, of New London.
At the time of arrest, Marshall was in possession of a mask and a large “buck” knife.
Marshall has been charged with breach of peace in the second degree, carrying a dangerous weapon and simple trespass.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
