MERRIMACK, NH — An 89-year-old man reported missing from his home has been found dead in Baboosic Lake.
Jon Carter of Merrimack was reported missing at about 7 a.m. Monday after he left his home sometime overnight and did not return, according to New Hampshire State Police.
Family members told police Carter was last seen at approximately midnight.
The Merrimack Police Department, Merrimack Fire Rescue and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department conducted an extensive search of the area surrounding his home.
Investigators canvassed Carter’s neighborhood and reviewed residential surveillance footage, which helped track portions of his movements overnight.
Carter was located in Baboosic Lake around 11 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.
New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol and detectives from Troop G responded to assist with the investigation.
Police are investigating Carter’s death as a possible drowning and do not consider it suspicious.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
