TOWNSHEND, VT — Vermont State Police are searching for a 78-year-old man who went missing after going for a walk in the woods.
Bruce Bills of Townshend left a note for family members on April 11, 2026, advising he had gone for a walk in the woods around 4 p.m.
The note was discovered at 10 p.m. when Bills had not yet returned home.
Vermont State Police Westminster Barracks began investigating the missing persons case at 10:11 p.m.
State Police, family members and local search and rescue teams began searching the area surrounding the residence on Jay Road.
Bills is described as an avid hiker and in good shape.
He is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds with short white hair and blue eyes.
No clothing description is available at this time.
Anyone who may have seen or had contact with Bills after 4 p.m. is encouraged to call State Police.
