NEW HARTFORD, NY — A man was found dead from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the Town of New Hartford Municipal Offices on Clinton Street on Thursday evening.
New Hartford police responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot and an injured person at approximately 8:15 p.m.
An officer who was already at the New Hartford Police Department, located in the same municipal building, immediately responded to the parking lot and found a deceased adult male near a pickup truck.
Officers checked the interior of the truck to determine if anyone else was present and found no one.
Police investigators conducted interviews with people who were in the area at the time.
Evidence technicians and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the scene and secured multiple pieces of evidence, including video evidence.
Police said that while the investigation remains ongoing and no formal conclusions have been finalized, they believe the incident was self-inflicted based on currently available information.
Next of kin have been notified.
Police said the man’s presence at the location was unrelated to any police matter, and other town offices were closed at the time of the incident.
