FREDONIA, NY — A man faces multiple weapons charges following a standoff that prompted a shelter-in-place order on April 8.
Kyle L. Denhardt, 44, of Maryland and South Carolina, was arrested after barricading himself inside a White Street residence for several hours.
Police responded to the residence after a resident reported that Denhardt was unwanted, refused to leave and was possibly in possession of a handgun.
Officers assisted the resident off the property while attempting to establish communication with Denhardt.
Denhardt ultimately barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting authorities to close White Street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic and implement a shelter-in-place order.
Officers from the City of Dunkirk Police Department, University Police at Fredonia and the New York State Police responded to assist by establishing a secure perimeter.
The Fredonia Police Department requested additional assistance from the New York State Police, which deployed Special Operations Response Teams including the Crisis Negotiation Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and an Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit.
Following several hours of negotiations, Denhardt surrendered peacefully to NYSP SORT and was taken into custody.
Police executed a search warrant at the residence and discovered a large cache of weaponry, including a handgun commonly referred to as a “ghost gun,” high-capacity magazines, ammunition, rifle parts and related accessories.
Denhardt is charged with Menacing in the Second Degree, Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Possession of a “Ghost Gun”) and five counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Possession of Unfinished Frames).
He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.
Bail was set at $400,000.
