Woman charged with assaulting officer in Rome

ROME, NY — A woman faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop Thursday.

Rome police conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Erie Boulevard West at approximately 4:53 p.m. after observing a traffic violation.

The driver failed to provide identification, vehicle registration and proof of insurance when requested by the officer, according to police.

The officer attempted to take the woman into custody for obstructing an official function when she allegedly slapped and kicked him.

Amber R. Gardner, 34, of Rome, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, obstructing governmental administration, harassment, resisting arrest and various traffic infractions.

Gardner was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.
