Rollover crash during police pursuit in Upper Allen Township

UPPER ALLEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A Mechanicsburg man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police and causing a rollover crash that injured his passenger.

Upper Allen Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Route 15 at a high rate of speed at approximately 12:55 a.m. on April 8.

As police attempted to catch up to the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, it accelerated, turned off its headlights, and attempted to exit onto Cumberland Parkway.

The vehicle lost control, flipped over the opposing lane of travel, and came to rest on its roof in the wooded area south of the roadway.

The operator, later identified as Alexander T. Gish, 20, of Mechanicsburg, left his passenger behind and fled into the wooded area.

Gish was later located and due to his need for medical treatment, was not immediately arrested.

Charges will be filed at a later date.

Gish faces charges of accident involving death or personal injury, evading arrest or detention on foot, duty to give information and render aid, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving, driving too fast for conditions and driving without lights to avoid apprehension or arrest.

Upper Allen Police were assisted on scene by East Pennsboro Township Police, Camp Hill Borough Police, Lower Allen Township Police, Mechanicsburg Borough Police, Upper Allen Fire Department, Upper Allen Fire Police, Mechanicsburg Fire Department and Penn State Health Life Lion EMS.
