FARMINGTON, ME — An elderly man was taken into protective custody Thursday morning after police say he was seen waving a gun in a Walmart parking lot.
The Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 9:33 a.m. reporting a male subject waving a gun in the parking lot at Walmart, 615 Wilton Road.
Additional information indicated the male was in and out of his vehicle, and it was unclear if he was attempting to leave.
Farmington Police Department responded along with deputies from Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Walmart followed their protocols and initiated a facility lockdown as a precaution.
The subject, an elderly male, was located in his vehicle and reluctantly responded to commands.
He was detained and later taken into protective custody and transported to Maine Health Franklin Hospital for evaluation.
The reported firearm was located and secured by police.
The facility lockdown was lifted at 9:55 a.m. and the parking lot was reopened.
