No gas leak found in Lawrence Township

1 min read

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Township of Lawrence responded to a citizen who had positioned himself at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and Lake Drive holding a sign warning of an active gas leak.

The Township dispatched the Emergency Management Coordinator, who worked with PSE&G to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the area.

PSE&G deployed specialized personnel and utilized advanced detection equipment, including highly sensitive remote methane leak detection technology and optical methane detection systems.

The entire area from the jug handle at Brunswick Pike and Lake Drive extending into the adjacent wooded and creek areas was systematically inspected.

PSE&G confirmed that no gas leak was detected in or around the area of concern or along any nearby gas mains.

Further technical review by PSE&G indicated that the nearest natural gas infrastructure, including a natural gas main and a steel pressure main, is located some distance from the reported area and does not run in close proximity to the location of the complaint.

Township officials ensured that the investigation covered all areas identified in the initial complaint.

Based on PSE&G and the Township’s public safety personnel’s findings, no natural gas leak was present in the area, nor was there any evidence of a concern for the release of other gas forms.

Previously, the Township’s Health Inspector requested that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and other state officials conduct a site inspection.

At that time, no evidence of methane or other hazardous gases was identified.
