House fire reported in Sparrowbush

PORT JERVIS, NY — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a house fire on Route 97 in Sparrowbush on Tuesday night.

Port Jervis Squad 1 was requested on the first alarm assignment around 10 p.m.

The squad crew conducted an interior attack but was forced out by deteriorating conditions, according to the Port Jervis Fire Department.

The squad operated on scene until being released around 1 a.m.

Earlier in the day, Port Jervis Engine 2 was requested to the Cuddebackville fire district at 12:30 p.m. for a brush fire on Thorne Road.

While en route, the engine was redirected to standby in the Huguenot district.

At 6 p.m., Port Jervis Engine 6, Squad 1 and Truck 7 conducted annual live burn training at the county training center.

While crews were at training, the remaining companies answered an automatic alarm in the city with mutual aid assistance from Huguenot, Sparrowbush and Matamoras.
