NEWFANE, NY — A North Carolina man faces multiple charges after a two-vehicle crash that ejected two passengers from his pickup truck on April 8, 2026.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Day Road and Wheeler Road at approximately 6:16 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries.
Investigators determined that a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling northbound on Day Road failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, striking a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound on Wheeler Road.
The pickup truck rolled over multiple times following the collision.
Two passengers in the pickup truck were ejected from the vehicle, including a 13-year-old child.
None of the occupants of the pickup truck were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Both ejected passengers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Chevrolet Equinox also sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the Dodge Ram, Jonpaul Oliver, 50, of Franklinton, North Carolina, was determined to be under the influence of drugs.
Oliver has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated by Drugs, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law (child passenger), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, as well as multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Additional charges are pending.
Oliver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
All other injured parties were also transported to local hospitals for treatment.
