LONG BEACH, NY — A Long Beach woman was arrested after allegedly trying to take an infant from a stroller while the child’s great-grandfather was on a walk.
Long Beach Police received multiple calls at approximately 12:19 p.m. on April 6, 2026, for a male and female fighting around a baby stroller at the intersection of Laurelton Boulevard and West Penn Street.
Long Beach Police Officer Gabrielle Gustafson arrived about one minute later and observed a male holding a female on the ground to keep her from getting to the baby stroller.
At the scene, the female was claiming the baby was hers and had attempted to remove the baby from the stroller.
It was determined that the 80-year-old male was the baby’s great-grandfather, who was on a walk with the infant.
The female, identified as Heather Magone, 40, of Long Beach, had no relation to the baby.
Magone had been walking a dog and approached the stroller, started unbuckling the safety straps and attempted to take the baby, according to police.
The great-grandfather was able to get Magone to the ground and hold her while also maintaining a grip on the stroller.
The baby’s parents arrived at the scene and Magone was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping.
Magone was arraigned in Long Beach City Court on April 7, 2026, and held on $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond bail.
