Man wanted for questioning in shooting in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for questioning about a shooting in which he was injured.

Nahji S. Mayes, 29, of Newark, is wanted for questioning about the March 20 shooting, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in progress at approximately 8:46 p.m. in the 70 block of Baldwin Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found Mayes lying on the ground bleeding from his right leg.

Officers applied a tourniquet until Emergency Medical Services arrived to take him to University Hospital.

Mayes told officers that he was struck by gunfire while taking out the trash.
