Loaded firearm recovered in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, MA — Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced on Tuesday officers recovered a loaded firearm after responding to a disturbance.

Around 2:50 a.m., Officers John Leahy, Hayden Hamilton and Sheila Rodriguez responded to a disturbance in the area of 22 Essex Street.

Officers separated the two parties and received information that one subject, identified as Tayvaughn Jordan, was alleged to have discharged a firearm in a vehicle when the other subject was inside and then discarded the gun in an apartment.

Sergeant Brendan Boyle arrived on scene to assist.

Officers placed Jordan under arrest while Sergeant Boyle applied for a search warrant for the apartment.

The warrant was granted and around 12:45 p.m., officers and detectives executed the search warrant.

They located a loaded firearm inside the apartment.

Tayvaughn Jordan, 32, of Springfield is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of ammunition without an FID card, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, threat to commit a crime and assault and battery.
