Woman charged with assaulting officer in Rome

ROME, NY — A woman faces multiple charges after allegedly slapping a police officer who was responding to a disturbance call.

Officers were dispatched to 206 Henry Street at approximately 10:13 p.m. Saturday for a report of a female yelling for help.

Upon arrival, an officer heard a verbal argument from behind the residence and observed three people in a physical altercation.

The officer gave verbal commands while approaching for the parties to stop, and one individual separated themselves while two females continued to physically fight on the ground.

The officer approached to separate the female parties when one of the females slapped the officer in the face, causing an abrasion to his face.

The female was identified as Dorthy Sochia, 34, of Rome.

Sochia was charged with attempted assault in the second degree, menacing in the third degree, harassment in the second degree and disorderly conduct.

Sochia was processed on her charges and transported to the Oneida County Jail for pre-arraignment detention.
