Woman arrested after allegedly driving at juvenile in Southbridge

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — A woman was arrested after police say she drove her vehicle at a juvenile following a fight involving young people.

Southbridge Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a large fight involving juveniles near the Community Center on Morris Street at approximately 6:02 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers determined an altercation had occurred between two juveniles.

During the initial investigation, a female identified as Samantha Angers arrived, took one of the involved juveniles into her vehicle, and left the area.

Witnesses reported she intended to locate another juvenile involved in the earlier dispute.

Officers observed a juvenile matching the description of the second party running on Chestnut Street appearing distressed and in fear.

Moments later, Angers was observed operating her vehicle at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at a stop sign, and driving erratically.

Officers witnessed Angers enter a nearby parking lot, where she continued to drive aggressively toward the juvenile.

Angers came within close proximity multiple times as the juvenile ran to avoid being struck.

Officers issued verbal commands and activated emergency lights, but Angers initially failed to comply.

Angers ultimately stopped her vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.

During the event, additional juveniles arrived and a secondary physical altercation occurred, which officers quickly brought under control.

No serious injuries were reported.

The juvenile targeted by the vehicle stated she feared for her life during the incident.

Samantha L. Angers, 39, of Southbridge, was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment of a child, assault with a dangerous weapon, contributing to the delinquency of a child and assault to kill.

Bail was set at $15,000 and Angers was held pending her release on bail and/or her arraignment in Dudley District Court.
