SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — A man was arrested after allegedly causing a disturbance at a business and assaulting a police officer.
Officers were dispatched to Elm Street at approximately 9:35 a.m. Monday to investigate a report that a male subject was causing a disturbance inside a business, was being combative toward customers, had flipped a table over and walked out.
Officers observed a male subject matching the description walking away from the business toward Main Street.
Officers approached the male subject and identified him as Johnathan Riopel.
Riopel attempted to punch one of the officers with his fist.
A struggle ensued during which time Riopel was taken to the ground but continued to be combative and assaultive toward officers.
An officer deployed a conducted energy weapon and Riopel was eventually secured in handcuffs.
He was then transported to police headquarters to be processed.
Johnathan M. Riopel, 39, of Southbridge, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and wanton destruction of property.
Riopel was later transported to Dudley District Court for arraignment.
